I see these icons in the URL a lot now days.

like say as example:

tongue http://blah. com

I am wondering how the SE see these, more important how are they treated?

Do the SE just stop at the icon, does it stop the SE spidering effecting of the site?

Anything else anyone knows about the SEO effect of these is appreciated.

The small 16x16 icon you see before the URL in the address bar of the browser is a Favicon. It helps to associate a website - logo, trade mark etc in the bookmarks (for IE and in later days with other browsers).

Traditionally, you place this favicon in your document root of the server as favicon.ico (this is how it is referenced). For Mozilla browsers, you can also use this:

Code: [copy]

Incidentally not all image manipulation software can save the image file in the .ico format.

sorry yes I meant a favicon. I posted in a hurry...

Does it show up in SE or effect SE in any way? I know it shows up in the browser location area, so I am not sure about how/if the SE "see" it.
